Three races. Three wins. Another perfect weekend.
The World Championship was already wrapped up, but Muc-Off athlete Jeffrey Herlings arrived at the MXGP of China with one goal. Another win.
The six-time World Champion topped free practice, timed practice and every race at the Shanghai International Off-Road Circuit, extending an outrageous winning streak that now stands at 38 consecutive sessions.
SATURDAY: WINNING THROUGH THE PAIN
Jeffrey’s weekend nearly took a turn during free practice when a nasty crash threatened to derail his charge.
Thankfully, The Bullet bounced back.
He topped timed practice before lining up for the qualifying race in brutal heat approaching 30°C. Starting second, Jeffrey made his move on the opening lap and hit the front.
Romain Febvre stayed close, but Herlings absorbed the pressure, controlled the race and crossed the line three seconds clear.
Battered, but still unbeaten.
RACE ONE: FASTEST AND FIRST
Tom Vialle grabbed the opening holeshot on Sunday, but Jeffrey was already locked onto his rear wheel.
He attacked through the opening corners, took the lead and immediately dropped the fastest lap of the weekend. From there, The Bullet did what The Bullet does—built a gap and controlled the race from the front.
Febvre recovered from an early mistake to move into second, but Jeffrey had already done the damage. He took the chequered flag 8.333 seconds clear.
Another moto. Another win.
RACE TWO: DIFFERENT CHALLENGE, SAME RESULT
Jeffrey came out firing again in race two, narrowly beating Vialle to the holeshot line before taking control at the front.
The pace wasn’t the problem. The Shanghai humidity was.
Sweat caused Jeffrey’s goggles to fog, forcing him to use his tear-offs to keep his vision clear. He pushed hard during the opening laps, knowing conditions would only become more difficult as the race went on.
Febvre handled the humidity well and closed the gap during the final laps. With two laps remaining, the Kawasaki rider was close enough to keep Jeffrey working all the way to the flag.
But finding a way past The Bullet is another matter.
Febvre’s final push ended with a huge moment over a tabletop, forcing him to back off. Herlings stayed composed and brought the Honda home to complete another perfect weekend.
Three race starts. Three victories. Maximum points.
