Muc-Off athlete Jeffrey Herlings has made motocross history once again, delivering a perfect weekend at the MXGP of Türkiye to secure his sixth FIM Motocross World Championship.
Five years after winning his fifth crown, “The Bullet” is back on top of the world—and now sits alongside Belgian legend Joel Robert on six titles. Only two riders in Stefan Everts & Antonio Cairoli in the history of the sport have won more.

Round 17 of the 2026 FIM Motocross World Championship took place at the Afyon Motor Sport Centre on Sunday, 6 September. Baking temperatures turned the hard-packed clay into a fast, technical surface that demanded total commitment.
“Honestly, I slept three hours last night. I had every scenario in my head because I had it go wrong so often,” Jeffrey admitted after securing the title.
With the championship within reach, Jeffrey didn’t play it safe.
He set the pace during the morning session, completing seven laps and going three-tenths faster than his closest championship rival, Romain Febvre.
To secure the title in the opening race, Jeffrey simply needed to finish ahead of Febvre. But simply finishing has never been his style.
RACE ONE: TITLE LOCKED IN
When the gate dropped, Honda HRC Petronas teammate Tom Vialle made a strong launch. Jeffrey powered through the opening corner, fired across the Fox Holeshot line in first and immediately got to work.
Behind him, Tim Gajser moved into second while Febvre battled Vialle for third. At the front, “The Bullet” was doing what he does best: riding fast, hitting his marks and controlling the race.
Jeffrey laid down the fastest lap of the entire day on lap nine. Gajser kept him in sight but couldn’t get close enough to mount a challenge.
After more than 34 minutes of racing, Jeffrey crossed the line 3.637 seconds ahead of Gajser. Febvre finished third, more than 18 seconds behind.
Race won. Championship secured. Title number six locked in.
Jeffrey became only the fourth rider in motocross history to reach six world championships. The achievement places him level with Joel Robert, with only Stefan Everts and Antonio Cairoli ahead of them on the all-time list.
It is Jeffrey’s third MXGP crown, adding to his three MX2 championships, and his first title with Honda HRC Petronas.
Not bad for his first season on red.
RACE TWO: CHAMPION MODE ACTIVATED
After celebrating with his family, team and supporters, Jeffrey returned for race two wearing a special gold helmet. His Honda had also been fitted with world champion graphics.
The championship was already secure, but Jeffrey wasn’t about to cruise around and collect the applause.
He launched into the lead once again, claiming his second Fox Holeshot of the day and his eighth of the season.
Vialle moved into second and refused to let his teammate escape. Behind the leading pair, Febvre recovered from a difficult opening lap, while Gajser lost ground after running off the track and later tipping over.
At the front, the two Honda HRC Petronas riders were operating on another level.
Vialle kept the pressure on and mounted one final charge during the closing laps. Even a small slide with two laps remaining couldn’t stop him from closing the gap, but Jeffrey stayed strong, kept his lines clean and gave him no opportunity to make a move.
“The Bullet” crossed the line first to complete another flawless 1–1 weekend. Vialle followed in second, with the Honda teammates finishing more than 28 seconds clear of third-placed Febvre.
Two holeshots. Every lap led. Maximum points. World championship secured.
That’s how you get it done.
FIVE YEARS IN THE MAKING
Jeffrey’s sixth championship comes five years after he last lifted the title in 2021.
The journey back to the top has been anything but easy. A series of injuries—including broken collarbones, broken ribs and a serious neck injury—repeatedly interrupted his attempts to fight for another crown.
But Jeffrey kept coming back.
His raw speed never disappeared, and neither did his hunger to win. In 2026, he combined that trademark pace with experience, composure and smart decision-making to produce one of his strongest seasons in the premier class.
Despite only beginning to ride the Honda in January, Jeffrey quickly adapted to the new machine. He has looked especially strong on hard-packed tracks, returning to the devastating form that has defined the very best years of his career.
This time, nothing went wrong.
THE NUMBERS ARE WILD
Jeffrey collected the maximum 50 points in Türkiye, with Vialle taking second overall and Febvre completing the podium.
The victory completed Jeffrey’s fifth consecutive perfect weekend and extended his incredible winning streak to 17 individual motos.
It also marked his 11th Grand Prix victory of the 2026 season, his record-extending 123rd career GP win and his 233rd individual race victory.
Jeffrey leaves round 17 with 855 championship points—a massive 156 points clear of Febvre—with two rounds still to race.
Absolute domination.
